Haydown Garden Open Day.  Our club is proud to support our Past President (and retired GP) Ion-Dan Edeleanu with the very popular Garden Open Days he arranges for charity.  Ion-Dan and his wife Doreen have created their 9-acre garden on North Downs over the past 35yrs. Formerly scrubland, it now includes woodland of indigenous and unusual trees, orchard, ponds, vineyard (wine available) and meadowland with many varieties of wild orchids. Haven for wildlife, incl badgers. Conducted garden tours. Featured on BBC Radio Kent and part of the National Garden Scheme.  Haydown Garden is also featured on the National Garden Scheme website. Click here for link to the National Garden Scheme website - and more information about Haydown Garden Open Days.

Local links with the first settlers from UK to Virginia in USA:

Gravesend (part of Gravesham Borough Council) is also renowned as the burial place in 1617 of Princess Pocahontas whom John Rolfe (one of the early settlers to Virginia, USA) married in 1614.  Pocahontas died in 1617 at Gravesend when she and John Rolfe were returning from London en route for Virginia, USA.

More information about the life of Princess Pocahontas (and the first settlers in Virgina, USA in 1607) is available on the website of St. George's Church - click here for more about Princess Pocohontas' life story.
