CLUB NEWS: 20th. March 2008. Our President Martin Bourne will be sponsored by friends and rotarians to have ALL (?) his hair and moustache shaved off in aid of charity. 3rd. April 2008. 3 Club Visit. Our Speaker will be Tom Hart Dyke, who will no doubt talk to us about the time of his capture by Bolivian terrorists in 2000. It was during this terrifying time that Tom conceived the idea of his World Garden, which he has now created at his family home at Lullingstone Castle in Kent. (as seen on BBC TV). 17th. April 2008. Membership Buffet meeting. Guests are invited on this evening, to meet club members and hear more about our Rotary activities. 26th. April 2008. Murder Mystery Night. All friends and new guests are welcome. Contact Club Secretary for tickets and more information. 1st. May 2008. Go Karting Challenge. This is our annual sponsored Go Karting Challenge at Buckmore Park circuit. This is a terrific evening out. Start time 6.00pm. Racing karts/overalls supplied. Have fun, challenge friends/colleagues and support our nominated local charities. All are welcome to enter a team (up to 6 drivers) and help raise money for charity. Haydown Garden Open Day. Our club is proud to support our Past President (and retired GP) Ion-Dan Edeleanu with the very popular Garden Open Days he arranges for charity. Ion-Dan and his wife Doreen have created their 9-acre garden on North Downs over the past 35yrs. Formerly scrubland, it now includes woodland of indigenous and unusual trees, orchard, ponds, vineyard (wine available) and meadowland with many varieties of wild orchids. Haven for wildlife, incl badgers. Conducted garden tours. Featured on BBC Radio Kent and part of the National Garden Scheme. Haydown Garden is also featured on the National Garden Scheme website. After his own successful year, our inimitable President Martin Bourne hands the chains of Office to the incoming President. So, as our newly invested President Stephen Gay takes the chair, he faces the new challenges in the year ahead and begins his own schedule of plans and activities for 2008/2009.
